xAPI (or TinCan API) is a specification for learning platforms like NovoEd to report data about user actions into a Learner Record Store (LRS). A customer’s LMS might come with a built-in LRS or the LRS can be purchased separately. The overall goal of leveraging this API is to bring data from various sources of learning in an organization into one place.
NovoEd technical support team, hello@novoed.com, can help customers enable and configure xAPI. Once enabled, NovoEd will send data of the following events into the customer’s LRS:
- A user is enrolled in learning
- The user started learning
- The user completed learning with success or failure.
For customers considering this integration, NovoEd recommends reaching out to the LMS provider to find out if they accept xAPI statements. If they do, customers should make sure that the feature is enabled for their license. This feature is usually an add-on.
Customers may also use this integration if their IT team has purchased an LRS (Learner Record Store) technology independent of the LMS.
