What is the difference between a Soft & Hard Deadline?
Assignment deadlines are designed to help set the pace for our learners to successfully complete our courses on time. For select courses, some assignments may be set with a soft deadline, which means that individuals and teams can still revise, edit, and submit the assignment after the set deadline until the end of the course. Do note that if the assignment has peer evaluations, you will not be able to revise the assignment during the peer evaluation, but as long as you turn in your assignment within the evaluation period, you will be eligible for a peer evaluation. Soft deadlines can be helpful especially if you have missed the deadline but are still working to receive your Statement of Accomplishment.
While hard deadlines are set and less flexible, if you have missed an assignment with a hard deadline - we recommend contacting your teaching team for a late submission permit.
You can notice the difference in the look & feel for assignments with soft and hard deadlines below. For assignments with soft deadlines, in the list they will have a light blue in comparison to the gray.
Once a deadline has passed, for all assignments with soft deadlines - you will notice the "Soft Deadline" badge as seen below. Otherwise, you may request a late submission permit for hard deadline assignments to get an extension. If granted, you will notice the "Extended" badge on the assignment page.
