Enabling points in your course can add incentive for participants to complete their course tasks on time. In the case that you would like to gamify your course, you can enable points for various activities including:
- Timed Exams
- Audio & Video
- Lecture Discussions
- Live Video Events
- Peer Evaluations
- Team Formation
- Group Formation
- Third-Party Tools
You can first visit your course dashboard with the "gear" icon at the top right and select "Points" at the left.
As you add points to different components in the course, the points total possible will display at the top.
For Assignments, you can set a default point scale per assignment as well as add exceptions (in the case that some assignments may be worth more or less points).
For Quizzes, you can either set points per correct answer or set a total of points that will be awarded if a course participant earns a passing score of a certain %.
For Timed Exams, you can either set points per correct answer or set a total of points that will be awarded if a course participant earns a passing score of a certain %.
For Peer Evaluations, you can set the number of points to earn per evaluation. Although, it is possible to conduct more than the required number of evaluations per assignment, the maximum amount of points to earn will be based on the # of evaluations required.
For Surveys, you can set the default points possible to earn per completion. No exceptions allowed.
For Audio & Videos, you can set the number of points available for each video/audio file watched completely, or alternatively set a threshold of % watched. For example, if you want to make sure participants watch at least half of all videos, you can set a threshold greater than 50%. All videos will follow the rules set.
To foster community and interaction within Lecture Discussions, you can set points for participation which will count once per topic, either for a comment on a post or a reply to a comment. You can set the default point value, no exceptions allowed.
For Team & Group Formation, you can set the number of points for completing the in-lecture activity.
For Third-Party Tools, you can set the number of points per activity.
For Live Video Events, you can set the number of points to be associated with attending each event (exceptions can be made). You have the option of allowing points for viewing the event recording (if points were not earned for attending the event live) and can also set what percentage of the event must be viewed for the points to be awarded.
For every component with points added, always make sure to save changes.
Note: Setting a threshold determines at what point the learner will be granted points. It does not determine the completion of the task.
